For many of us, forgiveness can be tangled up with ideas of fairness or justice. “But they never apologized,” we say. “They never even admitted they were wrong.” That may be true. But waiting for someone else to give you closure may leave you waiting a lifetime.
The reality is, forgiveness is not about the other person,
it’s about you.
Forgiveness is a personal choice made for your own
well-being. It’s a declaration that you’re not going to let old wounds define
your days or dictate your emotional energy. It means saying, I value my
peace more than I value holding on to anger.
You’re not condoning what happened. You’re simply choosing
to move on without dragging the pain with you. And in doing so, you reaffirm
your own worth. You affirm that your peace matters more than someone else’s
apology.
