Treasure the Friends Who Remain

As we grow older, our circle often becomes smaller.

That isn't necessarily sad.

It simply reminds us how valuable each remaining friendship really is.

My friend's words continue to echo in my mind:

"Old friendships have to be appreciated, preserved, and savoured while we can."

None of us knows how many opportunities remain.

What we do know is this:

A phone call made today is never too early.

A visit today is never wasted.

A laugh shared today becomes tomorrow's cherished memory.

And if your old friend tells the same story for the fifth time...smile.

You've probably told them yours six times.

That's what old friends are for.

Make a list of five people who have shared your life's journey.

Over the next month, contact every one of them.

Friendships are one of life's greatest gifts. They deserve to be celebrated while we still have the chance.

Growing older means saying goodbye more often than we'd like, but it also teaches us the true value of the people who remain. September is a season of gratitude and harvest. Perhaps the richest harvest of all is the friendships we've gathered over a lifetime. Tend them with care, share a laugh whenever you can, and never miss an opportunity to tell an old friend, "I'm glad you're part of my story."
