Fake News 3

The second is the Senator from Quebec, and it is below

It appears that this Senator hit a sour chord with this young lady!!

Jeff Smith, a Senator from Quebec, calls senior citizens the "Greediest Generation" as he compared, Old Age Security to   "a Milk Cow with over a million teats".

Here's a response in a letter from Patty Johnstone in Ontario.

I think she is a little ticked off! She also tells it like it is!

"Hey Jeff, let's get a few things straight!!

1. As a career politician, you have been on the public dole (tit) for FIFTY YEARS.

2. I have been paying CPP & OAS for 48 YEARS (since I was 15 years old.  I am now 63). Being a Canadian citizen for over 20 years & paying my

taxes, I am eligible at 65 to apply for Old Age Security - OAS (paid for through my taxes).

3. My Canada Pension payments and those of millions of other Canadians were safely tucked away in an interest-bearing account for decades until

you political pukes decided to raid the account and give OUR money to a bunch of zero losers in return for votes, thus bankrupting the system and turning OAS into a Ponzi scheme that would make Bernie Madoff proud!!

4. Recently, just like Lucy & Charlie Brown, you and "your ilk" pulled the proverbial football away from millions of Canadian seniors nearing retirement and moved the goalposts for full retirement from age 65 to age, 67. NOW, you and your "shill commission" are proposing to move the goalposts YET AGAIN.

5. I, and millions of other Canadians, have been paying into OAS & CPP from Day One, and now "you morons" propose to change the rules of the game. Why? Because "you idiots" mismanaged other parts of the economy to such an extent that you need to steal our money from OAS & CPP to pay the bills.

6. I, and millions of other Canadians, have been paying income taxes our entire lives, and now you propose to increase our taxes yet again. Why?

Because you "incompetent bastards" spent our money so profligately that you just kept on spending even after you ran out of money. Now, you come to the Canadian taxpayers and say you need more to pay off YOUR debt.

To add insult to injury, you label us "greedy" for calling bullshit" to your incompetence.

Well, Captain Bullshit, I have a few questions for YOU:

1. How much money have you earned from the Canadian taxpayers during your pathetic 50-year political career?

2. At what age did you retire from your pathetic political career, and how much are you receiving in annual retirement benefits from the Canadian taxpayers?

3. How much do you pay for YOUR government-provided health insurance?

4. What cuts in YOUR retirement and healthcare benefits are you proposing in your disgusting deficit reduction proposal, or as usual, have you exempted yourself and your political cronies?

It is you, Captain Bullshit and your political co-conspirators called Parliament who are the "greedy" ones. It is you and your fellow nutcase thieves who have bankrupted the CPP & OAS and stolen the Canadian dream from millions of loyal, patriotic taxpayers.

And for what? Votes and your job and retirement security at our expense, you lunk-headed leech.  That's right, sir. You and yours have bankrupted our benefits for the sole purpose of advancing your pathetic, political careers. You know it, we know it, and now you know that we know it.

And you can take that to the bank, you arrogant son of a bitch. And NO, I didn't stutter

P.S.

And stop calling CPP & OAS "entitlements". WHAT AN INSULT!

I have been paying into the CPP system for years. "It's my money - give it back to me the way the system was designed and stop patting yourself on the back like you are being generous by doling out these monthly checks.

EVERYONE!!!

If you like the way things are in Canada all you have to do is delete this.

If you agree with what this Ontario citizen says, please PASS IT ON!!!

Send it to your MP and ask how he/they feel about it

AMEN!

The problem is that this little article has been circulating on the Internet for about 10 years, here is what I found when I looked into it

The following is an interesting response from a Canadian perspective on a letter that originated in the US in 2011 and is still making the rounds on the Internet with different names and situations. I like the response; the problem is that there is no Canadian or American Senator named Jeff Smith. There is also no person that I could find names Patty Johnstone in Ontario, who will admit to writing this email and I am not sure about Patty Myers either.

The original response was from an American citizen to a statement made by a US senator as outlined by TruthorFiction.com. Even if these two people do not exist, I do agree with some of the sentiment of their response. I believe that we as Boomers have paid our fair share of taxes to support government programs, which may help us in our retirement. I believe while others don't, that those taxes are the price we pay for a better society. The original writers may be unknown, but the sentiment and anger are real, and it was this anger that allowed Donald Trump to win the election in 2016 in the US and that gave Doug Ford the win in the recent Ontario election in Canada. It still fuels the problems the Americans are having today.

Both Ford, and Trump, understand this anger and used it to gain and hold onto power. The anger that was in the original email back in 2010 is still there, for many people the anger is just under the surface, and because it is under the surface the anger is being ignored by many at their peril and being classified by some as fake news. There is a growing minority that allows their anger to come to the surface and a few are acting out on their anger. The actual emails are fake, but the underlying anger is not.

The comment of calling senior citizens the greediest generation was made by Senator Simpson in response to criticism from the opposition of the Simpson Bowles proposal to reduce the deficit and cut spending.

The angry letter to Simpson surfaced on the Internet in early 2011 but in its original form was anomalously signed. It was not until late 2012 that this letter began appearing attributed to the authorship of Montana citizen Patty Myers.

TruthOrFiction.Com is still working to confirm the real author, but as of today still have no idea who wrote the original letter.

My advice is don't pass it on, it is fake, get the facts straight.

Facebook post that is all wrong, but still circulated as the truth

Very Misleading (Wrong) Viral Post About CPP Thanks to Stacey for this. The original rant is in Italics and the correction is normal font

Some guy wrote a thing about CPP, but he thinks CPP is OAS or something and about 80,000 people have shared his post. Everything he claims in his rant is incorrect, so I figured I would set the record straight and like 8 people will share it and I will make a huge difference. My comments and correct figures are in BOLD.

OLD AGE PENSION QUIETLY CHANGED TO FEDERAL PAYMENT BENEFIT

The Old Age Pension cheque is now (or soon will be) referred to as a "Federal Benefit Payment?" This is what Social Security (USA) changed its name to and has nothing to do with Canada. I'll be part of the one percent to forward this. I am forwarding it because it touches a nerve in me, and I hope it will in you. Please keep passing it on until everyone in our country has read it.

Your note being shared 80,000 times and your complete lack of correct information in your post touches a nerve in me.

The government is now referring to our Old Age Pension cheques as a "Federal Benefit Payment." This isn't a benefit.

It is our money paid out of our earned income! Not only did we all contribute to our pension, but our employers did too.

It totalled 15% of our income before taxes.

Old Age Security is a benefit for all Canadians who live in Canada for at least 10 years after 18 and has nothing to do with how much you paid into it. He is talking about CPP (The Canada Pension Plan) and employees and employers paid 4.95% of their salary, so a total of 9.9%/year. This year (2019) it is going up to 5.10% (10.2% Total)

If you averaged $30K per year over your working life, that's close to $180,000 invested in a pension.

You don’t pay anything on the first $3,500 you make, so if we assume a working career is 40 years and the person made $30,000/year, then the number is now $104,940.

If you calculate the future value of your monthly investment in a pension ($375/month, including both you and your employer's contributions) at a meagre 1% interest rate compounded monthly, after 40 years of working you'd have more than $1.3+ million dollars saved!

So, now the savings for this person are $219/month for 40 years and the actual value if that person got a 1% rate of return would be:

$219/month = $129,293

$375/month = $221,394 (he’s just a little off)

Unless he thinks a meagre interest-rate is above 12%/year. I’d be pumped if I could find a way to make it so my clients could easily turn a small monthly investment into $1.3 million so easily.

This is your personal investment. Upon retirement, if you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $39,318 per year or $3,277 per month.

Now, let’s use the real numbers and keep his sweet rate of return of 1% and assume a person needs money from 65 – 90.

$221,394 = $834/month (not indexed to inflation, which CPP is)

$129,293 = $487/month (not indexed to inflation again)

That's three times more than today's average Old Age Pension benefit of $1,230 per month.

(WHO AKES $1,230 MONTH??) NOT MY PENSION!!

Someone who made over 30,000 for the years between 18 and 65, minus their worst 8 earning years would get CPP of $1,230/month.

Once again, he is talking about CPP. OAS pays out $601.45/month to anyone who has lived in Canada for 40 years after turning 18.

It is not even close to 3 times what CPP pays. Someone who made $30,000 their working life would get about 55% CPP due to not fully funding it, so they would be entitled to about $677/month, but that would go up every year as their dollars become worth less over time, plus they would get $601.45/month from OAS.

And your retirement fund would last more than 33 years (until you're 98 if you retire at age 65)! I can only imagine how much better most average-income people could live in retirement if our government had just invested our money in low-risk interest-earning accounts.

No it wouldn’t

Instead, the folks in Ottawa pulled off a bigger "Ponzi scheme" than Bernie Madoff ever did. They took our money and used it elsewhere. They forgot (oh yes, they knew) that it was OUR money they were taking. They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them. And they didn't pay interest on the debt they assumed. And recently they've told us that the money won't support us for very much longer.

CPP is not invested or managed by the government. A private team of portfolio managers invest this money on our behalf and try to make safe, but good returns in order to keep the plan solvent. The government can’t just borrow money out of this fund. It is well invested and there were concerns after the 2008 financial crisis, but the plan appears to be in good shape for the time being. You can google it and find out how and where the money is invested and who handles the money.

But is it our fault they misused our investments? And now, to add insult to injury, they're calling it a "benefit", as if we never worked to earn every penny of it.

Again, that’s an American term and when and where did they misuse our Pension Fund?

Just because they borrowed the money doesn't mean that our investments were a charity!

Let's take a stand. We have earned our right to our pensions. Demand that our MP's bring some sense into our government.

You will get the CPP amount you are entitled to and if you’re destitute in retirement, you will get GIS (Guaranteed Income Supplement) too.

Find a way to keep Old Age Pension going for the sake of that 92% of our population who need it.

It is still going, and they are enhancing it because most Canadians don’t save enough for themselves.

Then call it what it is: Our Earned Retirement Income.

It’s called the “Canada Pension Plan.”

99% of people won't SHARE this. Will you?

0% of people should have shared your message, because it was full of completely incorrect information. However, I think like 80,000 shared it, so that’s good news.

Just because someone goes on a rant on Facebook about something that makes you feel anger, doesn’t mean that person has their facts straight. Unfortunately, this person’s message got a lot of traction and it would have been a lot better for Canadians if it didn’t.

Thanks for reading.

Did Steve Jobs really say that?

A cousin of mine posted the information below and I thought it was interesting but I was not sure if it was real, it is not according to Snopes.com the last words of Steve Jobs attributed to him in this post are fake.

The first half of this text (everything preceding “Treat yourself well and cherish others) is a nearly verbatim copy of the fake deathbed speech falsely attributed to Steve Jobs back in 2015. That speech appears to have originated on a random blog and was never connected to Jobs in any real way.

The second half of this text has been circulating independently from the first since at least September 2015, when it was posted to a Chinese language blog at xuite.net. That posting was not attributed to Jobs, Guoves, or any other billionaire, and it was not shared as if it were a deathbed speech.

The fake Steve Jobs deathbed speech started making its way around the web in November 2015 and readers, apparently, have revised and expanded it over the years. At some point the text posted to xuite.net was tacked onto the end of the original fake speech, Jobs’ name was changed to Guoves and an image of an unrelated bald man was employed to depict the fictional billionaire.

In short: Steve Guoves did not make this speech on his death bed because Steve Guoves does not exist. Much of this text was previously attributed to Steve Jobs, but the Apple co-founder did not utter those words on his death bed either.

Although everything below is fake as to its origins, many people need to hear the words to help them through the darkness of our times and that is why it is widely circulating.

Steve Jobs died a billionaire, with a fortune of $ 7 billion, at the age of 56 from pancreatic cancer, and here are some of his last words:

"In other eyes, my life is the essence of success, but aside from work, I have a little joy, and in the end wealth is just a fact of life to which I am accustomed.

At this moment, lying on the bed, sick and remembering all my life, I realize that all my recognition and wealth that I have is meaningless in the face of imminent death.

You can hire someone to drive a car for you, make money for you – but you can not rent someone to carry the disease for you. One can find material things, but there is one thing that can not be found when it is lost – “life”.

Treat yourself well and cherish others. As we get older, we are smarter, and we slowly realize that the watch is worth $ 30 or $ 300 – both of which show the same time.

Whether we carry a purse worth $ 30 or $ 300 – the amount of money in the wallets are the same. Whether we drive a car worth $ 150,000, or a car worth $ 30,000 – the road and distance are the same, we reach the same destination.
If we drink a bottle worth $ 300 or wine worth $ 10 – the “stroller” will be the same.

If the house we live in is 300 square meters, or 3000 square meters – the loneliness is the same.
Your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Whether you’re flying first-class or economy class – if the plane crashes, you crash with it.

So, I hope you understand that when you have friends or someone to talk to – this is true happiness!

Five Undeniable Facts-

1.    Do not educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy. – So, when they grow up they will know the value of things, not the price.

2.    Eat your food as medicine, otherwise, you will need to eat your medicine as food.

3.    Whoever loves you will never leave you, even if he has 100 reasons to give up. He will always find one reason to hold on.

4.    There is a big difference between being human and human being.

5.    If you want to go fast – go alone! But if you want to go far – go together!

And in conclusion,
The six best doctors in the world.

1. Sunlight
2. Rest
3. Exercise
4. Diet
5. Self-confidence
6. Family/Friends

Keep them in all stages of life and enjoy a healthy life

Take what you can from the above and if it brings peace great but people who circulate this need to understand that it is fake.
