Canadian Senior Discount Guide: The Ultimate List

I think we should take advantage of every discount offered to us. I have talked about senior discounts in other posts, but I have found a great resource for Canadian seniors that I recommend they use to find discounts.

The Dealhack Canadian Senior Discounts List is the result of our quarterly survey of brands that offer seniors discounts. Every 3 months, our team independently verifies each and every discount on this list. We also add more brands to the list regularly when we come across them.
The list currently includes more than 50 brands conveniently broken down into 7 categories (and further by age groups within each category).
The online version of the guide can be viewed at:

From bus fare to movie tickets, senior citizens are discount-eligible almost everywhere in Canada. Make the most out of your benefits by running through this list of stores and brands that offer special discounts for individuals age 50 and above.

Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) membership - CARP is an exclusive association for Canadians age 50 and above. With an annual fee of $19.95, CARP members gain access to great benefits which includes discounts in many different stores, hotels, and etc. Discounts requiring CARP membership will be indicated in the pdf.

If you want a discount here are some general guidelines.

Always ask: Senior’s discounts are not always openly advertised. It is recommended that you ask about whether or not the store offers a discount every time you make a purchase.

Be prepared: Always have a government-issued identification card with you that provides proof of senior status, such as your passport, driver's licence, provincial health card, or Old Age Status (OAS) card.

We wanted to make it easier for you to determine your eligibility. That is why this Canadian Seniors Discount Guide is organized by the following age categories: age not specified, 50 and older, 55 and older, 60 and older, 62 and older, and 65 and older.

Some Dad jokes for my Grandson

Today, my grandson asked "Can I have a book Mark?" and I burst into tears. 10 years old and he still doesn't know my name is Royce.
DAD: I was just listening to the radio on my way into town, apparently an actress just killed herself.

MOM: Oh my! Who!?

DAD: Uh, I can't remember... I think her name was Reese something?

MOM: WITHERSPOON!!!!!???????

DAD: No, it was with a knife...
I bought some shoes from a drug dealer. I don't know what he laced them with, but I was tripping all day!
My friend keeps saying "cheer up man it could be worse, you could be stuck underground in a hole full of water." I know he means well.
Don't trust atoms. They make up everything!
Why did the invisible man turn down the job offer? He couldn't see himself doing it.
Dad, did you get a haircut?" "No, I got them all cut!"
"How do you get a squirrel to like you? Act like a nut."
"Why don't eggs tell jokes? They'd crack each other up."
"I don't trust the stairs. They're always up to something."
"What do you call someone with nobody and no nose? Nobody knows."
"Did you hear the rumour about butter? Well, I'm not going to spread it!"
"Why couldn't the bicycle stand up by itself? It was two tired."
"Dad, can you put my shoes on?" "No, I don't think they'll fit me."
"Why can't a nose be 12 inches long? Because then it would be a foot."
"This graveyard looks overcrowded. People must be dying to get in."
"Dad, can you put the cat out?" "I didn't know it was on fire."
"How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh? Ten tickles."
"What concert costs just 45 cents? 50 Cent featuring Nickelback!"

May Days: A Community Legacy

Although Port Coquitlam’s celebration dates back to 1923, May Days’ roots go back centuries. In ancient times, May was a time of outdoor celebration, and May Day was celebrated by the Romans with flower-decked parades in honour of Flora, their goddess of flowers. While the festival has evolved and grown over the years, it has maintained many of its original traditions, including – in other years – Maypole dancing and the crowning of local children as part of the May Days Royal Party.

This year’s online celebration is the latest proactive action Port Coquitlam has taken to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and to support the community at this challenging time.
This year’s online festivities replace the iconic annual parade, Party in the Square and other events that draw thousands into downtown Port Coquitlam that were cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you to our partners and sponsors!

May Days is organized in partnership with the May Days Committee and the Port Coquitlam Centennial Rotary Club and funded by our sponsors: Canadian HeritageCanadian Royal Purple and Downtown PoCo BIA.

What do we know about the Financial Capability of Americans and Retirement?

The findings below are based on results from the fourth wave of the FINRA Foundation’s National Financial Capability Study (NFCS). Read the report here.

·       Fifty-three (53) percent of respondents feel anxious when thinking about their personal finances and 44 percent find talking about their finances stressful.

·       Fifty-four (54) percent of respondents have not tried to figure out how much they need to save for retirement.

·       Only 58 percent of non-retired respondents report having retirement accounts, whether employer-based (for example, 401(k) or pension) or independent (for example, IRA).

·       Respondents with incomes under $25,000 are much less likely to have tried to plan for retirement compared to those with incomes of $75,000 or more (19 percent vs. 62 percent) and are much less likely to have retirement accounts (19 percent vs. 87 percent).

·       Fifty-one (51) percent of respondents are worried about running out of money in retirement.

·       Thirty-nine (39) percent of respondents use websites or apps to help with financial tasks.

·       Among those with student loans, 48 percent are concerned that they will not be able to pay off their loans.

·       When asked whether they would be able to come up with $2,000 if an unexpected need arose in the next month, nearly a third of respondents (31 percent) said they probably or certainly could not.

·       Only 7 percent of respondents were able to answer all six questions about personal finance (mortgage, interest rate, inflation, risk, compound interest, and bond price) correctly and only 40 percent were able to answer at least four questions correctly.

·       Only 29 percent of respondents report having been offered financial education at school, college, or their workplaces and only 15 percent indicate that they were required to take financial education at some point in their lives.
