Happy Birthday to my daughter

You are turning 50, and I still find myself amazed by your enthusiasm for life, your curiosity, your joy, and your sense of wonder about the world around you.

You have always been a smart, beautiful, caring woman with incredible energy and a love for life that inspires those around you. From the moment you entered our lives, you brought a special light into our family.

I still remember the day you were born. I have a photograph of you when you were less than an hour old, a tiny baby who had already captured our hearts. Your mom and I had chosen several names we liked, but when we looked at you, one name just seemed to fit. It was meant to be yours.

You grew up so quickly. Your childhood was filled with dance lessons, rehearsals, sports, and countless adventures. Your mom and I loved watching you discover your passions and supporting you along the way. We coached you in softball, you and your soccer team became provincial chanpions. Your mom went with you to piano lessons, and she created the amazing dance and Halloween costumes that brought so much joy to your childhood.

We taught you to ski when you were about five years old, although it didn't take long before you became a better skier than both of us! I still treasure the memories of family ski trips with Marg and her children to Mt. Baker, Whistler, and other wonderful resorts. Those were special times filled with laughter, adventure, and family memories that I will always cherish.

After graduating from high school, you followed your own path. You spent time working in the movie industry, then moved into the ski industry, where you found another place to share your passion and energy. Then you met Adam, and together you began a new chapter. Your adventure to Australia became something much bigger, you built a life there, found a community you loved, and eventually became an Australian citizen.

When your mom and I retired, one of our first major trips was to visit you. We immediately understood why Australia had captured your heart. We loved your community, your friends, and the life you had created. We were fortunate to visit every couple of years until 2020, when your mom's aneurysm changed so many things.

During that difficult time, you were a tower of strength for your family. Your love, support, and courage helped all of us through one of the most challenging periods of our lives. Although your mom is no longer able to travel, you have made sure we continue to share time together by coming home to Canada. That means more than you know.

One of the greatest joys of our lives was when you and Adam gave us our grandson. Your mom and I were over the moon. Watching him grow over the past 15 years has been an incredible privilege. He has become a strong, independent, focused, and remarkable young man. His pursuit of his Olympic dream is possible because of the love, encouragement, and support you and Adam have given him. You should be incredibly proud of the role you have played in shaping the person he has become.

As you celebrate your 50th birthday, I hope you take time to reflect on all you have accomplished and the many lives you have touched. You have built a wonderful life, not because of the places you have lived or the things you have done, but because of the person you are.

Your mom and I are so proud of you. We love you more than words can express, and we hope you always remember that no matter where life takes you, you will forever be our daughter, our joy, and one of the greatest gifts we have ever received.

Being away from loved ones on special occasions is like trying to drink a milkshake without a straw - it’s hard and just not the same. Today, my daughter’s birthday is here in Canada, but it was yesterday where she lives. It’s confusing, and I’m sure time zones were invented just to mess with us.

I wanted to say “home,” but let’s be real - where her mom and I live is just a place where we keep some of her stuff. Her real home is wherever her heart is, which is probably with her friends, son, partner, and cat live.

I hope her birthday was fantastic, with tons of cake and love from her Aussie family. It feels like we haven’t seen each other in ages, and her mom and I miss her like crazy. When she comes here in December, we’ll have some serious catching up to do - one birthdays and two Christmases worth!

Honestly, we’re all looking forward to it so much that we might just have to wear party hats when we pick her up at the airport. Finally, I can’t wait to give her a big, squishy hug!

 We met over 50 years ago, and over time we have spent some good times and some sad times together. Because of you and your influence, I have, over time, become a better version of myself, than I would have been on my own. I owe you my life and my love. Happy Birthday to a lady who continues to fill my life with joy. Here are some thoughts to show how I feel

You are just the right age to be a really cool senior citizen.

If I could go back in time, I'd buy your birthday gift the year you were born. It would have been much less expensive then.

Don't worry if your youth seems to be escaping you at your age, you can't expect to catch our grandson all the time.

To be this young is sometimes far more cheerful and hopeful than to be forty years old!

A birthday wish

We've been together a long time, and I when we are apart, I still think of you. You still cause me to lose my breath when I see you again.  

We have experienced many of live's joys and heart aches and have grown stronger because of the experiences we have shared.

Happy Birthday Ryder

This post wishes my grandson a happy birthday on his second birthday. He gets to celebrate two birthdays, the first  in Australia where he was born, and one day later we can celebrate with him in Canada. So he gets to celebrate two birthdays, one as a Canadian and one as an Australian.

Ryder,how time fly's,  two years ago you were so small, and so fragile

  

Today you turn two and are a growing up to be a fine young man, with many friends and many adventures for you to have and many experiences to enjoy. Life is good. 

Even though Grandma and I cannot be with you today, we are thinking of you and love you and we will see you in November and look forward to spending Christmas with you.

Be safe, know you are loved and as you continue to grow in body, and mind, I know  your spirit of adventure and love of life is growing as well.
